Duke of Edinburgh
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is a nationally and internationally recognised award which is acknowledged by employers and universities alike. The award is very well established at Sharnbook Academy and offers a wide range of challenges and opportunities to our students. The school offers the award at all three levels: bronze, silver and gold with expeditions being organised and run by staff from the school.
Students achieve the award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition), each of which they undertake for a set period of time. At gold level, a fifth section is also required, which is a residential experience. For more specific information on the award, please visit www.dofe.org
Students can enrol on the bronze level of the award from year 9.
Enrolment for this level will take place in January, providing students sufficient time to complete their first three sections of the award before undertaking their final section, the expedition section in year 10.
To complete the award, the following timescales must be completed for each section.
Students will enrol on the silver level of the award in year 10.
To complete the award, the following timescales must be completed for each section
Students will enrol on the gold level of the award in year 12.
To complete the award, the following timescales must be completed for each section. At this level a 5th section, the residential, is required to be completed.
