Sixth Form News

Year 12 - Important information from Mrs Rattu

We have a busy half term ahead and I thought it would be beneficial to publicise a few dates.

4th June

UCAS sign up during tutor time – venues have been sent to form tutors.

13th June

Period 5 – Futures Programme launch in the main hall. This is compulsory for all Year 12 students, as it will outline how we are going to support students in planning for life and career beyond Sharnbrook Sixth Form.

17th June

Study leave for all Year 12

18th & 19th June

Exams (students are not expected in lessons). It is really important that students take these exams seriously as staff will use them (along with other data from the year) as an evidence base, when predicting grades for UCAS/ apprenticeship applications.

19th June

Normal lessons

21st June

UCAS convention at Bedfordshire University. There will be no Year 12 lessons this day as all students should attend. Students need to register individually via the link Mrs Gill sent. Students should already have responded to Mrs Bains regarding transport if they are travelling on the coach from school.

25th/26th June

Year 11-12 induction

Compulsory attendance for the following:

2nd July

‘Futures Day’ with lots of input from different universities, the National Apprenticeship Service and NCS…so something for everyone.

3rd July

#gotthejob - This is a new venture for us! An external company are delivering the sessions, which will give students an opportunity to experience an assessment/ interview orientated day, which is becoming more and more popular with big companies. This will be great if students are planning to go straight into the world of work, or even after students have completed their degree. It promises to be a very interesting day. Students will be allocated into either a morning or afternoon slot – both are the same. More info nearer the time.

Finally – work experience week (week commencing 15th July). A great opportunity to get some real-life experience! Remember the assembly from Mr Pritchard. Please make sure that paperwork is in AT LEAST a week beforehand, as we have to comply to health and safety regulations checks.

UCAS Convention 2018 - posted 10th Jul

On Friday 29th June, our year 12 students travelled to the University of Bedford in order to sample the wide range of universities from across the UK that came to promote themselves at the UCAS event.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for a day - posted 21st Feb

For my work experience I went to the Human Resources department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for a day. This was not an area of work that I was familiar with but in October I ‘took over’ the learning and development branch of HR as part of takeover day which I really enjoyed. Although I only did a day’s work experience during the week I have done multiple other days at GOSH over the last couple of years including taking over the pharmacy and learning and development (as mentioned previously) and going to a life skills day at Morgan Stanley.
