Art and Design- Fine Art
There are 2 different art courses you can choose: fine art or graphic communication.
ART AND DESIGN: FINE ART
This course offers a broad range of skills which, at its core, develops a competency in drawing and painting. With a foundation of skills learning in year 9 and development of individual projects in year 10 and 11, students are able to evolve creative and diverse outcomes to a high standard. The range of work produced is also supported by referencing artists’ approaches and techniques.
Students will have the opportunity to explore drawing, mixed media, 3D, printmaking and painting. Students purchase their own sketchbook and some drawing and painting equipment for the start of the course.
All courses in art and design are externally moderated and are weighted:
60% Coursework (developed across the 3 years)
40% Exam (a 10 hour practical in April of year 11)
What can I do with an Art and Design Qualification?
You may wish to do a GCSE in art and design for its own sake because you enjoy it, or perhaps to form the basis of a future interest. Or you might wish to go into a job where it is essential to have had experience of art, craft and design. GCSE art and design also can lead to further studies at A level and beyond: all stepping stones towards employment in the art industry. This might include careers such as advertising, design, costume, theatre and TV design, architecture, publishing, illustration, the media and many others. Whichever you choose, the study of art and design can help you develop transferable skills which you can take into any career or job.
