Futures
Day - UCAS Applications
In
your UCAS session, you will be registering for your UCAS university
applications. Even if you are in two
minds about applying, you should register anyway. If you don’t, and you do decide to apply
later, you’ll be a long way behind everyone else, and this could cost you a
university place!
How to do it
You
should find the UCAS website straight forward as long as you follow this advice:
·
Use
the general guide you should have
received in your UCAS pack.
·
You’ll
find a help button next to every question.
Apart from obvious stuff (like your name), click on these and use them as it’ll save time and errors.
·
On
each page, you’ll also find a help button on the left hand side. Click
on these each time you go to fill in a section as they give you very useful
(sometimes essential) guidance along the way.
Again, they’ll help to ensure you fill in your application quickly and
accurately.
Passwords and
Usernames
Once
you register, the UCAS site will issue you with a username (usually your name
plus a number).
e.g. rsanchez1
It
will also ask you to select a password using letters and numbers
. Please create this by using
your first name plus 1.
e.g. jonathon1
If
your first name hasn’t got enough letters in it, just use it twice plus 1
e.g. tonytony1
Then,
make sure you note down both of these in
a really safe place. Then, tell us by
noting it down on the card that will be passed round during your futures day
session.
This
is not because we are nosey. It is
because, every year there are a number of students whose applications have last
minute problems that stop us from sending them off. If we can’t get hold of you, and the deadline
is looming, but we can find your
username and password in our records (or at least work out your password using the system mentioned above if we can’t find it in our records), we can
save the day by loging in as you and fixing the
problem. There are a number of students
each year who only end up at university because
we have been able to fix their application this way!!!!
The Application
Once
registered, and you have given us your log in details, you can begin to work
your way through each section of the application. It doesn’t all have to be done at once - you
can save your work and come back to it.
Some things to
remember:
- Questions with a
red asterisk are compulsory
- If you try to
move on without filling in these sections, the system will stop you and
tell you what you should have filled in (comments appear in green)
- As you fill in
the application form, make sure you save
every so often to prevent losing work, but only indicate the section as complete when you think you have
answered everything.
- If you miss out
non-compulsory information, the system will usually give you some advice
if it thinks you should have filled it in.
- READ the
information on each page thoroughly before moving on.
- Use the help
buttons (as mentioned above) throughout your application.
- Our buzzword is futures (all lower case)
