OUTDOOR EDUCATION: BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA

 

The BTEC First Diploma is a full time vocationally based one-year programme.   This is a nationally recognized qualification which is accredited within the National Qualifications framework.   

     This course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs, and designed for anyone who is interested in outdoor education as it will develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable progression within specific areas of employment.  You need to have enthusiasm, be reasonably fit, able to put up with adverse weather conditions and to work as part of a team.   Topics covered are the sport industry, health, safety and injury, preparation for sport, sports leadership skills (climbing wall supervisor’s course), expedition experience (Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award) and a number of different outdoor and adventurous activities.

·         Practical activities of 1 full day per week, 1 major expedition per term

·         Additional Qualifications: Duke of Edinburgh Award, AQA climbing,  BCU * Awards

·         No formal exam, a grade of pass, merit or distinction by coursework
