PHILOSOPHY
AS/A2
Ultimately,
philosophy is not so much the name of a particular subject, but rather the name
of an activity: the activity of thinking clearly and logically about a whole
range of issues. These issues include
Morality (questions of right and wrong), Political Theory (what is justice?)
and Knowledge (do we really know everything which we think we do?). The overall aim of the course is to help
students develop into independent, critical thinkers and learners, and to
encourage an attitude of enquiry in all areas of life. A highly regarded university and employment
entry qualification.

Details of this course can be found in the Art & Design

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
AS/A2
The AS and A2 Level course covers a variety of theoretical topics
including Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring Movement Skills, Socio-cultural
Studies, Historical Studies, Comparative Studies, Psychology and Exercise
Physiology. Some of these units are a
mixture between the practical and theoretical and during both years there is an
emphasis on your chosen sports. This is
a demanding course in terms of multi-discipline theoretical input (80% over the
two years) and students need to appreciate this before making their options. We expect all AS and A2 students to be
involved in extracurricular sport.

PSYCHOLOGY AS/A2
Psychology is about people and the complex ways in which they interact
with one another. We can learn about
people from a number of angles, each of which can provide valuable insights and
ideas. The course provides a grounding
in the main areas of the subject, and looks at how the ideas and theories
involved in each area have developed over time, and the evidence which has been
put forward to support them. Among the
topics covered are memory and forgetting, stress and stress management, conformity
and obedience, aggression, abnormal behaviour and psychopathologies such as
schizophrenia.
