Below
are brief details for General Studies, Geography, Geology and German

GENERAL
STUDIES AS/A2
General Studies is an A/AS Level course
which is part of the core curriculum for all students in Year 12. With a great emphasis on thinking skills, it
is designed to cross subject boundaries and to provide a balance to the
specialised nature of A/AS level courses.
It is widely accepted for university entrance, and most universities
give credit for having followed the course.

GEOLOGY AS/A2
Geology is the science of the earth, applying chemistry, physics and
biology in order to unravel our Earth’s history. We can analyse and predict geological
processes occurring today (earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis etc.); and using
geological techniques we can find out how to extract and process the Earth’s natural
resources (minerals, oil, gas etc). If
you enjoyed aspects of Earth Materials in Year 10 Science, want to study an
applied science A level and/or want to complement another science A level or
Geography A level, or just fancy something different, then Geology could be for
you!

GERMAN AS/A2
During the two years students will cover a wide variety of contemporary
topics with the emphasis placed on oral work, resulting in students being able
to speak confidently about all aspects of life in German speaking
countries. Students are encouraged to
take part in the exchange to Hamburg
and find this invaluable experience of German life most enjoyable. Material is taken from authentic sources such
as newspapers, magazines and audio and video material and students will have
the opportunity to read short stories and extracts from modern literature, if
they wish.
