DANCE
AS/A
The AS/A2 Dance course involves both the
practical and academic study of Dance. Students
will learn to choreograph dances, improve performance and watch and appreciate
a broad range of dance works. There will
be opportunities to see professional dance works live and to take part in
workshops led by dance artists, thereby improving understanding and knowledge
of the current dance scene. A variety of
dance styles are covered on the course along with dance notation, health, diet,
anatomy and injury prevention for dancers.
Dance is not only a subject for potential performers. The analytical nature of dance theory, the
problem solving inherent in choreography, the ability to communicate and the
importance of self-presentation are all vital in today’s working environment.

DESIGN:
GRAPHICS AS/A2
This is a new course
bringing an exciting extension to the Design and technology department. Context within Graphic Design is a
significant element of understanding. It
refers to how ideas, feelings and meanings are visually communicated to
different audiences. Understanding is
demonstrated by how images and artifacts are used to solve problems in relation
to particular audiences. Candidates need
to demonstrate how solutions to problems and audiences are also socially
constructed over time through genres, styles and traditions. Finished design work may be in any
appropriate media or technique. Students
may adopt an exploratory approach to the integrated use of materials and
processes, reflecting contemporary practice within this area. They will also have opportunities to
experience contemporary graphic design during visits to major exhibitions and
University degree shows.

DRAMA
AND THEATRE STUDIES AS/A2
The advantage of this A Level is that
it is not purely academic, but you cannot pass it unless you are competent
academically. Many businesses claim that
this A Level is the most appropriate preparation for recruits into Management
training. If you have gained an A level
in Theatre Studies, you have proved yourself capable of self-motivated
research, of disciplined working practices, of being a valuable member of a
team and of critical evaluation. The number
of careers available with skills such as these (arts disciplines aside) are
numerous.
