Sharnbrook Upper School Association
We are fortunate at our school to have a PTA that is and has been an integral part of the school community for a number of years. In its time, SUSA has raised thousands of pounds, which have been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our students’ education experience and the school facilities.
We always endeavour to spend our funds in ways that will benefit all students across all areas of the school and curriculum. Many of the resources purchased have a direct link to the School Improvement Plan.
For a while now, we have been struggling to recruit volunteers and committee members. With the schools recent transition to secondary status, we feel it is a perfect opportunity to revamp the PTA. We are proposing to change the name of the charity (Friends of Sharnbrook Academy) and the constitution (which will allow us to donate funds on a much broader scale). In the coming months, we will be holding an EGM and are hoping to establish a flexible and informal group of staff, parents and people from the local communities, covered by the school’s catchment area – even students if they wish! Details of this meeting will be on the school website.
Despite a small committee at present – just the two of us – we are still managing to fundraise for the extras that enhance students' time at the school.
Did you know that you can raise money for the school when you buy school uniform?
We are members of The Giving Machine. This innovative scheme is potentially one of the easiest and most sustainable ways the PTA raises essential funds regularly. Since joining The Giving Machine in 2009, we have raised several hundreds of pounds – this is just through our supporters shopping online and it’s free to join too!
Every time you purchase school uniform with John Lewis via The Giving Machine, it generates a donation of 1.5% to the PTA. Visit www.thegivingmachine.co.uk for joining instructions and further information. Membership is free and very easy to set up.
By far the most effective way we have raised funds over the last few years, is through the 200 Club. This works in a very simple way! Membership is limited to a maximum of 200 people to give everyone a good chance of winning a prize. Each member pays £2 into a monthly draw – either paid in full for the year by cash or cheque (£24) or by setting up a standing order. Half of the money available each month is allocated for the prize draw, so if 200 people have paid £2 for a particular month, then £200 is available for prize money.
