Specialist Media Arts, Applied Learning and Training School

Sixth Form

Sharnbrook’s Sixth Form began in 1978 and, by 2010, will reach 630 students; a significant proportion of which go on to degree courses in Higher Education, 232 last year. With such a large Sixth Form (more than one third of the student population), a commitment to Post-16 education is obviously an important feature of the school. Wherever possible, all staff are encouraged to teach across both the age and ability ranges, including Post-16.
The Sixth Form facilities are excellent with the Sixth Form Centre being the key area which supports students’ studies. The Centre contains Sixth Form secretariat, a common room and dining facilities, lecture rooms and fully equipped and staffed Learning Resource Centre.
Students are encouraged to manage their own affairs and, also, to integrate into the wider life of the school through both the vertical tutoring system and a wide range of other activities.

Arrangements for study leave dates and how it will work for the BTEC students in Years 12 and 13:

A level only students:

Y12:
Friday 14th May (last day in school) - Monday 14th June (first day back – change from 7th).

Y13:
Last day will remain Friday 28th May.

Students taking BTECs (ranging from a single to triple BTECs):

All BTEC students should be in school for BTEC lessons (unless, of course, in an exam).

Where students have extra free lessons owing to their AS/A2 lessons not taking place during study leave,
they can use them to revise in school (there’ll be lots of rooms available).

Where a student ends up with a whole or “half” day without lessons during the study leave period, they
can take home study (where possible).

The Sixth Form Leavers’ Ball
The Ball will be held on Wednesday 30th June.
