Admissions Policy |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The following admissions policy has been agreed by the Governing Body of Sharnbrook Upper School to apply in the case of over-subscription to the School. Over-subscription If the number of applications for admission to Year 9 exceeds 375, places will be allocated by the Governing Body in accordance with and in the order of the criteria set out below: 1. “Looked after”* students; Notes 1. In any situation where the application of the above criteria results in a situation where there are more students with an equal right to admission to the School than the number of available places priority will be granted to those living closer to the school or the shortest distance measured in a straight line between the central point (the main school reception) of the main School site and where the student lives. Priority is not given within each criterion to children who meet other criteria. 2. * Looked after students are children or young persons who are accommodated by a local authority or who are the subject of a full or interim Care Order. 3. ** The Schools admissions (catchment) area comprises the parishes of Bletsoe, Bolnhurst & Keysoe, Carlton & Chellington, Clapham, Dean & Shelton, Felmersham & Radwell, Harrold, Knotting & Souldrop, Little Staughton, Melchbourne & Yielden, Sharnbrook, Stevington, Milton Ernest, Oakley, Odell, Pavenham, Pertenhall, Podington, Hinwick & Farndish, Thurleigh, Turvey, Riseley, Swineshead and Wymington. 4. *** A sibling is a brother or sister or any other child who permanently resides at the same address, for whom the applicant has parental responsibility. That sibling must be in the school at the time of the application and be likely to remain in the school at the proposed date of admission. 5. ****Medical grounds refers to cases where there are exceptional medical reasons which make it essential that a student should attend the School and where the School is the only school locally that could meet the student’s need. A medical report from the student’s doctor or consultant, setting out valid medical reasons why admission to the school is essential must be submitted with the application form. The governing body may seek the views of the LEA’s medical officer to determine whether it is essential for the student to be admitted on medical grounds. Admission on medical grounds cannot be considered where the medical condition relates to that of a parent, sibling, other relative or childminder. 6. A student’s home address will be regarded as the address of the parent(s) or guardian(s) with parental responsibility with whom the student usually lives. This will not usually include grandparents, aunts or uncles. Where a student spends time with parents at more than one address, the address used will be the one at which the student is ordinarily resident and where the student spends the majority of the school week (Mondays to Fridays) including nights. If a student moves into the admissions area outside the normal admissions round (or after the allocation process has been completed) there will be no guarantee of a place at the School if this would mean exceeding the admissions number. 7. Overriding priority will be given to students who have a Statement of Educational Needs which names the school. Priority may also be given to the admission of ‘hard to place’ students e.g. excluded students, normally in accordance with any protocols which have been agreed with groups of schools. 8. Waiting List : the school maintains a waiting list for admission into Year 9 until the start of the new school year in September. If you are not offered a place at the school, we will place your child’s name on a waiting list which has been prioritised according to the admissions criteria. If a place becomes available, we will contact you. 9. The school allocates places on an equal preference basis as explained in the Bedfordshire L.A. school transfer booklet and is a part of the Local Authority co-ordinated admissions process.
