Languages

The MFL department at Sharnbrook aims to provide high quality teaching enriched by a range of extra-curricular activities. Most pupils study French until the end of KS3. We work with the local middle schools to introduce German and Spanish as second languages and our pupils continue with this on joining Sharnbrook until the end of Year 9. Latin is available as an optional activity. A whole range of events is organised to supplement the curriculum eg. Languages Week, Languages Work and French, German and Spanish exchange visits.

Pupils are encouraged to opt for at least one foreign language at KS4 and uptake is good. Results at GCSE are very good (87% A*- C 2008). Pupils are taught by a variety of methods, including interactive whiteboards and computers. Whenever possible, they also have sessions with the French, German or Spanish foreign language assistant.

GCSE Revision Resources

All three languages are taught at AS and A2 level. Results are very good and a regular number of Sharnbrook pupils choose to continue their study of MFL at university. Pupils are taught in small groups, with an emphasis on oral work and the consolidation of accurate written work. A range of authentic materials is used for both reading and listening and pupils are encouraged to subscribe to Authentik magazines. There is the opportunity to take part in exchanges and work experience placements abroad.
