Welcome to the Art and Music Curriculum Area page.

Art

Art is a popular subject at Sharnbrook  and  the exam success speaks for itself.  There are four full time members of staff and an art technician. The facilities are outstanding with three large purpose built art rooms, plus dark room, kilns and digital suite. Through the Art and Design programme, we offer GCSE in Fine Art and 3D. In addition we offer Graphics with Photography. At Post-16 we offer Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and Graphic Communication. There is an easy progression from Year 11 to Post 16 and after school workshops are encouraged where students of all ages can work together at their own pace.

Our links with our feeder middle schools and progression from middle to upper are well established. In Year 8, students sit an Art exam which develops at Sharnbrook in Year 9.
In Year 13, Fine Art students have their own work area in The Gallery which transforms into an exhibition space in June for our end of year show. A great opportunity to meet old friends, see the outstanding quality of art work, listen to live jazz and to sample our BBQ and fine wine, this is always an exciting and well attended event. While proud of our excellent exam results, we are just as proud of the creative and individual nature of students’ work. This, we feel, remains our mark of distinction.

To see a full range of work from Year 8 to Year 13 go to www.susart.com. For an introduction to our new virtual learning projects, go to the series of Lets Learn Art podcasts which can be found in  ITunes.

Music

Welcome to Sharnbrook Upper School’s Music department.  Within this busy area we have a host of excellent facilities and activities for students to make use of.  We run a range of extra-curricular groups including a main school orchestra, chamber orchestra, jazz band, string orchestra, flute choir, saxophone group, choir, and wind band. All these groups are open to all students and take place either during the school day or after school. They are run by a variety of either full time staff or one of the 15 peripatetic staff who teach the full range of orchestral and pop/rock instruments. The department benefits from two specialist computer suites dedicated to music and music technology, a large classroom where a range of recitals regularly takes place and two professionally equipped recording studios.  All of the above help make Sharnbrook’s Music department an extremely lively and vibrant place to be.
